Calculate Age by Date of Birth
Understanding and calculating age can vary across different cultural norms. Our free age calculator is designed to follow the prevalent age system widely used in many Western countries.
According to this system, an individual's age increases on their birthday. For instance, if someone has lived for 3 years and 11 months, their age is considered 3, and it advances to 4 on their upcoming birthday, which is one month later.
It's essential to note that various cultures express age differently. In some traditions, age is counted inclusively or exclusively of the current year. For example, a person who is twenty years old may be considered the same age as another person in their twenty-first year of life.
In one traditional Chinese age system, individuals are born at age 1, and their age increments during the Traditional Chinese New Year, not on their birthday. For instance, if a baby is born just one day before the Traditional Chinese New Year, they would be considered 2 years old only two days later.
Our age calculator provides results based on these cultural variations. However, it's important to acknowledge potential confusion, particularly in situations involving months and days, especially when the start date is at the end of a month.
For instance, we interpret Feb. 20 to Mar. 20 as one month. Similarly, when calculating the age from Feb. 28, 2022, to Mar. 31, 2022, we use the method of considering both Feb. 28 and Mar. 31 as the end of the month, resulting in one month.
We apply a similar approach to dates like Apr. 30 to May 31, May 30 to June 30, and so forth. Our calculations follow the former method, recognizing the variable number of days in different months.
